Steve graduated in Physics from Queen Mary College, University of London, and earned a Ph.D. at Lancaster University on Langmuir-Blodgett superlattices of porphyrins. After postdoctoral research at Imperial College London and a period as Visiting Scientist at Eastman Kodak, Rochester, NY, he joined the University of Leeds in 1991, where he became Professor of Molecular and Nanoscale Physics in 2002.
Steve's research focuses on developing theranostic nanomaterials and microbubbles for cancer imaging and treatment, and applying single-cell biophysical analysis to understand disease progression and improve therapeutic efficacy. Combining Raman spectroscopy, microfluidics, and machine learning, his work aims to deliver high-throughput, label-free diagnostic platforms for early cancer detection, and personalised medicine.
