Yusei Sato is a biophysicist and synthetic biologist with extensive research experience in artificial cell systems and cytoskeletal dynamics. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), where he focuses on developing bio-micromachines as next-generation diagnostic platforms, leveraging his expertise in microfluidics and cell-free systems (PURE system).
Yusei obtained his Ph.D. in 2024 from The University of Tokyo under the supervision of Prof. Junichiro Yajima. His doctoral research investigated the mechanical regulation of actin filament motility driven by phospholipid membrane-bound myosin, with particular emphasis on the roles of spatial confinement and membrane coupling in cytoskeletal dynamics. Through this work, he established experimental platforms to reconstruct motility within cell-sized droplets.
His research interests lie in bottom-up synthetic biology, the origins of life, molecular motor-cytoskeletal systems, and the physical principles governing cell-like systems.
